The subfamily Scydmaeninae (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae) is recorded for the first time from kumejima Island, the Ryukyus, Japan. A new species, Euconnus (Euconophron) kumejimensis sp. nov. is described. Cephennodes (Cephennodes) yonaguniensis HOSHINA, 2012 is reported from that island. As a result of this study, the number of Japanese species of Euconnus becomes fifteen.
