New Record of Plecia longiforceps Duda, 1934 from Yaeyama Islands, Japan (Diptera: Bibionidae)

Abstract

Plecia longiforceps Duda, 1934, is recorded from Yaeyama Islands (Yonaguni, Iriomote and Ishigaki Islands), Japan for the first time. This is the sixth species of the genus recorded from Japan. Plecia sinensis Hardy, 1953, previously only known from mainland China, is found to be a junior synonym of P. longiforceps.
