THE RH, MNSs, DUFFY, KIDD, XG, LUTHERAN, KELL, P AND VEL BLOOD A GROUP FREQUENCIES IN JAPANESE, A FURTHER POPULATION SAMPLE

Abstract
This paper records the results of recent studies on the phenotype distributions and the gene frequencies for nine blood group systems in Japanese people living in Tokyo and its suburbs; figures for the Rh and Kidd blood groups obtained in this study is added to those already reported by the present author.
The gene frequencies estimated were: CDe 0.6523, cDE 0.2576, cde 0.0374, cdE 0.0326, cDe 0.0119, Cde 0.0062, CDE 0.0015, CdE 0.0006; Ms 0.4877, Ns 0.4538, MS 0.0419, NS 0.0166; Fya 0.8971, Fyb 0.1029; Jka 0.4759, Jkb 0.5241; Xga 0.6822, Xg 0.3178; K 0.0001, k 0.9999; P1 0.1957, P2 0.8043. No evidence of the genes Mg, Fy, Jk, Lua, Lu, Ko and Ve was found.
In the Rh system the observed number of phenotypes CCDee, ccDEE, ccDee, ccdee and CCdee were found to exceed the expected ones, though the excesses were not statistically significant. A possible explanation for the excesses is that some samples of these phenotypes may be heterogyzotes for -D-, cD- or-. Also in the MNSs system, a slight excess of MS, Ms and Ns homogyzotes was observed, as in the case of Rh system.
As previously described by Race and Sanger (1968), an excess of JkaJkb heterogyzotes was noted in the present series, but was smoothed out by being added to the previous figures.
