We came across the first example of non-secretor Ohm blood group phentoype in Japanese, which was classified into Row II of the Race and Sanger's category.
The propositus was 22 year-old male donor. His red cells did not react with any reagent of anti-A, anti-B, anti-A+B and anti-H lectins (Ulex europaeus, Lotus tetragonolobus, Cytisus sessilifolius and eel serum), but were agglutinated weakly by the anti-H of the Bombay sera.
His serum contained anti-H which reacted with O-cells by the antiglobulin method (agglutination titer 4).
The A, B and H substances in the saliva were not detected. His Lewis group was Le (a+b-).
The pedigree study revealed that one of the propositus' sister was also Ohm. This family had consanguineous marriage for three generations.
