Abstract
A patient with pheochromocytoma was a 55-year-old Japanese female. Anti-E antibody was detected in her serum. Its titer measured by indirect antiglobulin test was 4. She was transfused with 2 units of incompatible (E antigen positive) blood, which was judged to be compatible by an inexperienced technician, late in the night in December, 1988. The immediate posttransfusion period was uneventful. Three days later, she developed a slight fever and hypertension, but these symptoms disappeared without special treatment after several hours. No elevation of anti-E antibody titer was observed during a month after the incompatible transfusion.
