Abstract
Thermal radiation of metallic materials are characterized by the three factors: electronic properties, effects of surface roughness, and effects of surface films and/or layers. The present study discusses the electronic properties for the purpose for radiation heat transfer estimation. A systematic method is proposed to describe the spectral and temperature dependence of optical constants, by revising an electronic theory with an engineering point of view. The method is examined for various kinds of transition metals and alloys at high temperatures.
