A 6-year-old Belgian Shepherd was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of lameness in the left hind limbthat had persisted for 3 weeks, and a diagnosis of patella ligament rupture was made based on the clinical, radiographic, andultrasound findings. A total of three nylon threads were placed between the quadriceps tendon and the tibial tuberosity, as well asbetween the patella and the tibial tuberosity in order to perform encircling sutures, and a polypropylene mesh was used for patellaligament reconstruction, with a lateral splint for 2 weeks. As a result, a good long-term clinical functional recovery was obtained. This treatment combination could therefore be an effective method for highly active large dogs.
