Abstract
Non-human primate CRP(C-Reactive Protein) was analyzed using an auto blood analyzer with a commercially available immune multi-layered film sticking human CRP monoclonal antibody. Sixty seven serum or plasma samples analyzed for this study were collected from 47 captive primates belonging to 12 species of 6 genus. As CRP values from healthy primates belonging to the genus Macaque, Cercopithecus, Hylobactes and Pan were below 1.0 mg/dl, it was suggested that 1 mg/dl should be the threshold for this method for these four genus. Assaying primate CRP with anti-human CRP antibody using an auto blood analyzer is fast and easy, and is useful as a clinical diagnostic tool for captive primates. However, some diseased primates suffering from enteritis, hepatitis and others showed low CRP valus (<1.0 mg/dl). Baboons also showed over 1.0 mg/dl of CRP values in spite of being in good health. Therefore, attention and further investigation for each species or genus is needed before this method is put to practical use.
