Safety of second-generation soft electrolyzed water AP water

Abstract

We examined local and systemic toxicity of second-generation soft electrolyzed water (AP water) for oral administration in mice. The animals were given AP water or tap water (as a control) from a tapped bottle for seven days ad libitum. In both group's general signs, change in body weight, food consumption, autopsy, organ weight were normal. Water consumption in experimental group was slightly smaller than control group, although there was no statistically difference. Histopathological examination of liver, kidney and tongue, and observation of lower molars surface by SEM showed no particular change. The results indicate that the local and systemic toxicity of AP water is so slight that no possibility of adverse effect is found in use of a gargle and a mouthwash.
