Natural language search refers to a search paradigm that uses natural language, similar to everyday conversation, for search queries. Natural language search contrasts with traditional keyword-based search. This article provides an overview of natural language search, which has rapidly gained popularity in recent years, highlighting its features compared to keyword search. This article also examines the factors that contributed to the rise of natural language search, focusing on the advancements in natural language processing (NLP) powered by deep learning technologies. Lastly, the article introduces the concept of retrieval-augmented generation, an emerging topic that integrates retrieval modules into large language models. This article aims to deepen the reader’s understanding of natural language search through this discussion.
