This paper focuses on the pre-award activities conducted by University Research Administrators (URAs) at Tokyo Metropolitan University, particularly the specific initiatives for grant application support. To assist researchers in obtaining competitive research funding, various efforts are undertaken, such as grant application support, hosting explanatory meetings and seminars, automating application processes, and developing on-demand application provision apps. Furthermore, by using the examples of Doctoral support programs and applications for the Open Access Acceleration Project, this paper provides personal insights on the tasks and competencies required for URAs.
