In this paper, we first report an overview of the on-demand Japanese language preparatory course offered in the spring of 2023. Next, we discuss the significance and challenges of the course based on interviews with three Japanese language learners who participated in the course as "zero beginners" before coming to Japan. It was confirmed that the preparatory course was useful for those zero beginners to survive the life changes after coming to Japan and to participate smoothly in Japanese language classes.
