This study examines the motivations of two Japanese language support volunteers with different back-grounds in a regional language classroom. Using PAC analysis, the research highlights one volunteer’s frus-tration over unfulfilled expectations despite their commitment to social significance and learner engagement, while the other finds satisfaction in intercultural exchange and personal enjoyment. These contrasting per-spectives underline the importance of accommodating diverse motivations to sustain volunteer participation. The study recommends fostering open dialogue among volunteers, clarifying classroom objectives during recruitment, and creating varied types of regional Japanese language classrooms to enhance retention.
