This study aims to clarify the actual conditions of Japanese language use among foreign workers in the accommodation industry through interviews with six foreign staff members working at ryokan in the Higashi-Izu area of Shizuoka. The results indicate that, while participants have a basic understanding of the importance and use of honorific expressions, they experience difficulties applying them in workplace settings. In addition, difficulties in listening comprehension during customer interactions and a limited understanding of Japanese culture were perceived as factors contributing to challenges in their work.
