The Process of Developing a Basic Mechanics Vocabulary-Learning Resource through Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Abstract

We try to make educational materials about Japanese vocabularies in basic mechanics for foreign students in a KOSEN (college of technology). This work is being done collaboratively by a Japanese language teacher and a math and science teacher. First, we looked for vocabularies that are frequently used in the textbook “Basic Mechanics” by using text-mining software. Then, we classified these vocabularies by difficulty level and extracted vocabularies including particular meaning or usage from them. This task requires Japanese viewpoints as both a general learning language and technical terms. Therefore, interdisciplinary collaboration is necessary.
