Abstract
This study investigates workplace communication challenges faced by highly skilled foreign professionals and their coping strategies. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven highly skilled Vietnamese professionals working in Japan. Coding of the interview data identified 15 challenges, categorized into four areas: language comprehension and use, mutual understanding, external business communication, and workplace practices. Analysis also revealed 22 coping strategies, highlighting the importance of active clarification behaviors for smooth task performance and trust building.
