Ri-ichi Ezaki, the founder of Ezaki Glico, was born into a family running a small pharmacy in Saga, Japan. Guided by the belief that contribute to society through business, he established Ezaki Glico with the concept of ``nutrition confectionery,’’ aiming to improve people’s health through food. Through continuous innovation in product development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing, the company expanded its business both domestically and internationally.
Today, Glico Group operates across Asia, the Americas, and Europe, with consolidated annual sales of approximately 330 billion yen. While adapting to changing markets and environments, the group has consistently inherited the founder’s philosophy. In recent years, this spirit has been articulated as the corporate purpose, ``Healthier days, Wellbeing for life,’’ which expresses Glico Group’s commitment to supporting consumers’ Wellbeing and enriching their lives through its business activities.
Based on a special lecture delivered by the Chairman of Ezaki Glico, this paper traces the historical development of the company’s management philosophy and examines how its founding spirits continue to shape its corporate purpose and long-term vision.
