The giraffe has been in general described as lacking in the gall bladder (R. OWEN 1868, M. WEBER 1904, L. BOLK 1937, etc.), while A. SEDWIE (1905), B. ANDO (1939), S. HAYASHIDA et al (1956), J. KOBARA et al (1965) and others mentioned the presence of gall bladder in the giraffe.
Present authors had the opportunity of investigating the liver and the gall bladder of an adult male giraffe. The liver resembles mostly to that of the sheep. The Lobus hepatis sinister and Lobus hepatis dexter are identified easily. The Lobus caudatus lies dorsally on the visceral surface of the liver and has a deep depression for the right kidney. The pear-shaped gall bladder lies distinctly in contact with the right hepatic lobe. The neck is continued by the Ductus cysticus which joins the Ductus hepaticus dexter at the Porta hepatis to form the Ductus choledochus. In the present material, the hepatocystic ducts are observed distinctly between the right hepatic lobe and the gall bladder. The gall bladder is measured 110 mm long and 50 mm wide.
