A Study of the Latest Multimedia and Instructional Education-based Oral Hygiene Education

Abstract

This paper proposes a new approach using CAI technique that suits the needs of oral hygiene education with the discussion on the current situation regarding oral hygiene and instructional technology, in mind the authors investigates how multimedia and instructional technology may be applied to oral hygiene through an audio-visual process with the help of dentists. In the process, they seek to reduce the difference in dental knowledge between the dentist and his/her patient, and provide the necessary information in "patient-friendly terminology". As a result, information about oral hygiene can be assimilated more effectively, as "patient-friendly terminology" provides a means for patient to access understandable information. This information, originating from standard oral hygiene textbooks is processed to form "patient-friendly terminology," which is easier for a patient to understand. In order to verify the effect of oral hygiene education through this method, they tested it in a school for pregnant women. To determine its effectiveness, they conducted paper tests. The results of the test show that multimedia-based oral hygiene education not only helps students to better understand the treatment, but also is a good teaching aid for the teacher. Suggestions for further improvements were also obtained.
