Abstract

 We create the new training program about maritime English for cadets in the training ship and introduce it.

 Navigation course cadets in the training ship study the knowledge and the skills to be a qualified navigational officer. Navigational officers are requested the skill not only ship operation skill but also English communication. Therefore, authors consider new effective program about maritime English.

 The main aim of this program is to make them motivate to study English, because they have many practice besides maritime English in the training ship. First step is vocabulary and grammar training using flashcard and the publication, Basic Maritime English. Second step is speech training. Cadets practice ship master’s briefing about berthing operation on prepared English manuscript. The last step of this program is a skit training. Cadets write a comedy scenario and play it.

 Then, we got many positive replies from them after these training. Authors wish this program spread through another training ship.
