Since November 2017, we have been working with a domestic tanker company on various studies to further expand the use of near-miss reports beyond risk management and to use it in the development of seafarer training programmes. The results of the analysis of near-miss reports collected over period of a 60-months are summarized below:

    (1) The introduction of a web-based system temporarily increased the number of near-miss reports, but maintaining and increasing this number may require diversification of reporting methods.

    (2) Statistical analysis of select questions can identify high-risk situations and risks previously by seafarers.
