Abstract

The International IFOMPT Cervical Framework developed by the International Federation of Manual Physiotherapy (IFOMPT) states that cranial nerve examination is an important test for assessing head and neck pain originating from vascular pathologies and should be performed as necessary in the provision of safe physiotherapy. It is difficult to determine the presence or absence of a vascular pathology solely on the results of a cranial nerve examination. Physiotherapists, however, are required to ensure patient safety in collaboration with other professionals based on the examination results. This paper provides an overview of the cranial nerves and outlines how cranial nerve examinations should be performed, along with precautions.
