Abstract

In 2012, the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists published the Cervical Framework Document, a framework of considerations for physical therapy interventions in the cervical region. The document recommends that several tests be performed before manual physical therapy interventions, such as manipulation and mobilization of the cervical spine. This is because, although rare, neck pain and headaches resulting from problems with the neck arteries may mimic those of musculoskeletal origin. This paper describes the structure of the arteries of the neck and adverse events, as well as the associated subjective assessment, blood pressure measurement, and examination of the arteries.
