Annual carbon dioxide emission from cement production in Japan is about 26 million tons, accounting for 2% of the total emissions, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions in this section is important. The authors have reported that by replacing 30% of limestone, the main raw material of cement, with wollastonite, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced without impairing the properties of produced cement. In this report, the carbon dioxide emission reduction amount by the above process was quantitatively evaluated. As a result, heat and mass balance calculation showed that the reduction of fuel consumption could be expected by replacing limestone with wollastonite in addition to the reduction in carbon dioxide emission from limestone calcination, and the total reduction of carbon dioxide emission was found to be 23.5% compared to the conventional process.
