The aim of this study is to investigate fuel deposits development and the factors that effect the development when fuel droplets impinge repeatedly on a hot surface. The fuel droplets tested are diesel fuel (DF), bio-diesel fuel (B 100) and bio-blended diesel fuels (B50, B20, B5). Comparison between hot surface deposition test (HSDT) and engine deposition test (EDT) show both have same tendency in deposits development for different types of fuel. Instead of EDT, HSDT was used to estimate amount of deposits accumulated for bio-diesel fuel and its blends. Deposits development depended on droplet impingement interval, hot surface temperature, fuels, deposits properties, initial stage of deposition and competition phenomena during deposits formation. These factors determine the existence of wet condition and amount of deposits accumulated. Wet condition was not the main reason of rapid development of deposits. However, it contributes in enhancing the amount of deposits accumulated on hot surface.
