JMSJ has a long tradition as one of the representative journals for meteorology and related sciences. Its editorial board will keep working for the journal’s continuous improvement and satisfaction for our authors, readers, and reviewers.
In 2025, the JMSJ publishes the 103rd volume of its incarnation as “Series II”. JMSJ will be published as a Springer/Nature (S/N) journal starting from the 2026 edition. Manuscripts submitted after January 2025 and those accepted after January 2026 will be published as S/N Journal articles with a different article processing charge (APC) from the current regulation and a different editing platform from the current system. It should be remarked that there is possibility that the manuscript submitted in 2025 and accepted much earlier than 1 January 2026 must wait for publication until the S/N publication platform opens. For manuscripts published as S/N Journal articles, please refer to the submission guidelines that will be independently provided soon later.
The journal’s rich archive presents a fascinating history of the development of meteorological science and is a testament to all those who have contributed to the journal’s success. We will keep striving to improve JMSJ in all aspects – editorial, technological, financial, and otherwise – to ensure that it continues to serve as a resource for, and of, the meteorological research community.
In 2024, the JMSJ highlighted Duc and Sawada (2024), Kosaka et al. (2024), Yokota et al. (2024), Ishii et al. (2024), Inoue et al. (2024), Sekido et al. (2024), Shimada et al. (2024), and Fukui et al. (2024). Among them, Editorial Committee was honored to present the JMSJ Award to the authors of two articles that presented novel research findings on important topics as below:
No invited review article was published in 2024.
Two special editions were organized and published in 2024:
Submissions for “Special Edition on Research on Heavy rainfall and snowfall, and moisture transport” closed on 30 November 2024. Submissions for “Special Edition on Research on the Frontier of Atmospheric Science with High Performance Computing” also closed on 30 November 2024. It is worthwhile noted that JMSJ jointly organized this special edition with SOLA.
In 2020, JMSJ created a channel on J-STAGE Data (https://jstagedata.jst.go.jp/jmsj) to enable authors to deposit, share, and link to the data within their articles. In 2024, JMSJ authors added two datasets to J-STAGE Data. Authors of JMSJ papers are strongly encouraged to use J-STAGE Data for archiving datasets related to their papers. Authors who plan to use J-STAGE Data should refer to the JMSJ website (https://jmsj.metsoc.jp/instructions.html) and contact the JMSJ Editorial Office (jmsj@metsoc.jp) for instructions.
We would like to express our gratitude to the meteorological research community for its support of the journal in 2024 and for the forthcoming contributions in 2025. The journal’s success relies on the considerable efforts of authors, reviewers, readers, and editors. We look forward to working with you to continue JMSJ’s development and success in 2025.
