Abstract
The gas-deposition method (GDM) was used to fabricate Fe nanocrystalline films. STM observation showed that small particles 15nm in diameter were produced in the first stage and formed aggregates around 50 nm in diameter. Increasing the pressure difference between the evaporation chamber and the deposition chamber led to a slight reduction in the grain size and a lower coercivity. Mössbauer spectra recorded at room temperature and 4.2 K consisted of a crystalline component (α-Fe) and a boundary component with a smaller hyperfine field than that of α-Fe and a small area ratio. No oxide subspectrum was observed even at 4.2 K. The magnetization of the samples, which was around 95% of that of bulk α-Fe, along with the Mösbauer data, revealed that Fe nanocrystals prepared by the GDM have good oxidization resistance.
