Abstract
Iron-rich amorphous ribbons have excellent magnetostrictive properties such as ultrasonic propagation phenomena with small attenuation in which propagation velocity is widely controllable due to the ΔE effect, and high sensitivity of magnetic properties against external stresses (inverse magnetostrictive effects). Amorphous magnetostrictive alloys also have outstanding elasticity and various kinds of linear characteristics which are suitable for applications to sensors or transducers in the field of so-called “Mechatronics”.
Basic characteristics of amorphous magnetostrictive ribbons are summarized and their applications to variable delay lines and to force and displacement transducers are represented.
