Study on estimation method of dry density using 3D point cloud data

Abstract

  In the backfilling work for the low-level radioactive waste disposal facility, it is planned to cover soil with bentonite mixture soil. In the construction management of the cover soil, it is necessary to ensure a predetermined density. Quality control in soil-covering construction requires area-wide control, as in recent years for compaction construction. In order to meet this requirement, we have studied the method that can calculate density distribution from the following three pieces of information, 1. Distribution of construction layer thickness, 2. "Bulk density" during leveling, and 3. "Compressibility (thickness after rolling compared to thickness before rolling)" due to rolling. Construction tests were conducted with different laying thicknesses, and the validity of the estimation method was confirmed by comparison with on-site density tests. It was also found that in order to achieve high reliability, more than 50 pieces of data are required when creating a regression equation to estimate dry density.
