Abstract

Background: Left ventricular diastolic function is impaired in early-stage type 2 diabetes patients.

Objectives: The relationship between left ventricular diastolic function and renal function was investigated.

Methods: Echocardiography was performed in a total of 173 type 2 diabetes patients (90 men, 83 women; mean age, 65 years) without heart failure and E/e′ measured to determine left ventricular diastolic function. Potential correlations were investigated between E/e′ and eGFR as an indicator of renal function or other clinical parameters.

 Results: The E/e′ showed a correlation with age (r = 0.401, p < 0.01) and eGFR (r =- 0.315, p < 0.01). Multiple regression analysis revealed a relationship between E/e′ and eGFR (t = 2.379, p < 0.05).

Conclusion: The results of this study suggest a relationship between left ventricular diastolic function and eGFR in type 2 diabetes without heart failure.
