Because dental residents often take more time for dental procedures, their patients may be subjected to additional anxiety and stress. We studied the length of time required for dental treatment based on the number of years of clinical experience of the dentist. This study was divided into two parts. In the first part, we studied a dental resident, a dentist with two years of clinical experience, and one with three years experience in the same department. Evaluations were done by an instructor who teaches dentists. Analysis revealed that the treatment consultation time decreased as the number of years of experience increased. In the second part of the study, the evaluator was a dental instructor, and the participants included six residents who were in a clinical training program in the same department as their evaluator. The consultation time of dental residents could be shortened by discussing medical treatment every day. We believe the consultation time can be shortened if the dental resident is conscious of the problem and prepares a solution. We found that decreasing treatment time improves patient satisfaction as well as the quality of care provided. (J Osaka Dent Univ 2021; 55: 271‐275)
