Abstract
It is of vital importance to mutually transform Braille and ordinary letters with as minimum human action as possible. There are three necessary conditions. First, Braille input/output equipments are necessary to connect Braille with computers. Secondly, as Japanese Braille does not represent Chinese characters (kanji), it is necessary to create a Braille system for kanji or to transcribe kanji in Japanese Braille. Thirdly, a series of softwares to transform Braille into ordinary letters and vice versa, or mutually between Braille systems. Such problems have been tackled one after another in collaboration with various organizations concerned and the Braille-kanji input/output systems, including automatic kanji writing system for Braille users and automatic Braille writer from ordinary prints , are now almost operational.
