Abstract
To cope with the ever-increasing number of inquiries to a book distributing agent about book publishing and distribution, an on-line IR system for book publishing is recently developed and put in use. The data base comprises an index file, master file, and publisher file, and through terminals placed at bookstores, the enquirer can search the file in six searchmodes, to get information on publishers (name, address, phone, publications), books by particular authors or translators, prize winning books, bestsellers, and de-luxe editions, andthe answer is displayed on CRT. The procedure of system development, configuration, file contents, search methods, specific features and effects of the system is descrived.
