Evaluation of Chemical Abstracts(2) - Analysis of Book Collection -

Abstract

It has been long time since various data bases appeared. Amid so-called information flood data bases have played a role in improving performances of industrial activities or social life by providing appropriate information at right time from them. Particularly CA Search (corresponding to printed CA) is indispensable and important data to persons who are engaged in R & D in chemistry and the related fields. For the purpose of advancing on-line searching efficiency by clarifying the scope and coverage by document type the suthor analyzed the patent information covered in CA, which results were reported in the articles “Evaluation of CA, No.1 and No.2”. This time author studied the ratio of book collection to the whole coverage of the data base, and the characteristics in terms of subject coverage, publication country, publisher, language and comparison with books covered in publication catalogs of the representative publishers.
