Databases capable of searching chemical structures are most often used in surveying novelty of low-molecular weight organic compounds. Searchers choose one or more from different databases available, depending on the intended use. We made comparisons of chemical structure search results using the following three databases: REGISTRY, MARPAT from STN International, and DCR from DWPI. This paper reviews characteristics of each database and evaluates them to serve as a guideline for database selection.
