Genes & Genetic Systems, the official journal of the Genetics Society of Japan, has been publishing papers related to genetics for nearly 100 years. Papers published in the journal had become all English and their PDFs have been accessed through the J-STAGE system since early times. From 2013, the journal started a few new efforts supported by JSPS(Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) to enhance its internationalization and to make itself one of the top Asian journals of genetics. Those include increasing numbers of foreign editors and advisory board members, providing English-editing to the accepted manuscripts and advanced publication. I explain some details and the outcomes of those efforts and then discuss ensuing problems, some of which have been resolved but others still are remaining. Future perspectives of the journal are also discussed.
