Abstract
Soybean oil fatty acid was esterified by the use of boron trifluoride-methanol reagent varying the relative amount of the reagent against the amount of fatty acid according to the specification of AOCS Ce 2-66.
The yield of esters were analysed by GC. The values obtained under the different reaction conditions were treated statistically.
It was found that there are the differences between the analytical values of unsaturated fatty acid obtained by the use of different amounts of the reagent against the same amounts of fatty acid. It was also observed that significant differences between the analytical values of unsaturated fatty acid was found when fatty acid sample were treated with different lots of the reagent under the same conditions.
