Abstract
Nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions of halogenonitrobenzenes and halogenoanthraquinones with various alcohols were investigated under the phase transfer conditions, using tetrabutylammonium bromide as a catalyst. The reactions were accelerated more strongly by a fluorine substituent on the aryl group than by a chlorine one, giving the corresponding aryl ethers in good yields even at room temperature in the case of fluorides. The reactivity order of alcohols was primary, secondary, and tertiary.
