Abstract
The fatty components of each caste of Coptotermes formosanus (worker, soldier, alate and larva of alate) were studied for determination of fatty and sterol composition. The major fatty acid components of all samples were 18 : 1, 16 : 0 and 18 : 0. But, 22.0 and 24 : 0 as fatty acids were detected in the fatty components of soldier. 17 : 0 and 17 : 1 as fatty acids were found in all samples in considerable amounts. The major sterols of all samples were cholesterol and cholestanol. The saturated sterols (cholestanol, campestanol and stigmastanol) characteristically totaled nearly 50% the sterol components of all samples.
