From the seeds of Lagenaria siceraria, a bioactive substance was obtained in a rice lamina inclination test. It was subsequently extracted, highly fractionated, converted to a bismethaneboronate derivative, and analyzed by GC-MS. The brassinosteroid, castasterone, was identified. Sterols in the seeds were also analyzed by GC-MS. Three 24-alkyl-Δ5-sterols and five 24-alkyl-Δ7-sterols were identified based on direct comparison with authentic samples.
