Abstract

This paper tries to find desirable physical elements of a street in a residential area from a pedestrian point of view. Basic supposition is that a pedestrian would choose the best route for him among some routes. In this study, the routes on which each pedestrian really walked one day are investigated. Through an analysis of pedestrian route-choice-behavior, this paper finds that important desirable elements of a street are “short distance”, “effective width”, and “smoothly paved surface”.
