The aim of this paper is to make clear some aspects of intentions of dwellers for the pedestrianization of narrow streets in their residential areas. As Japan experienced the rapid motorization after the Second World War like other industrialized nations did, various social problems have been caused. It goes without saying that there are many points to be discussed on above matter, but it is important from the view point of transportation planning to attempt the significant utilization of existing streets. The perestrianization of narrow streets in residential areas is one of the attempts.
