Abstract

THIS PAPER DEALS WITH THE QUESTIONS HOW THE DIFFERENCE OF GROWTH PROCESSES OF CAMPUSES OF UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES INFLUENCES THEIR SPATIAL FEATURES. TWO TYPICAL CAMPUSES ARE TAKEN UP FOR CASE STUDIES, ONE BEING DEVELOPED MAINLY THROUGH THE FILLING UP PROCESSES WITHIN THE EXISTING SITE AND THE OTHER BEING DEVELOPED MAINLY THROUGH THE GRADUAL EXPANSION OF ITS SITE. THE ACTUAL GROWTH PROCESSES OF THE TWO CAMPUSES OVER A HALF CENTURY ARE ANALYZED, AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS IN THE FORMATION OF THEIR SPATIAL CHARACTERISTICS ARE DISCUSSED.
