Abstract
THE GREEN-TOURISM PROMOTION HAS BECOME RECENTLY REGARDED AS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT METHODS OF REVITALIZATION IN MOUNTAINOUS DISTRICTS. FROM THE CASE STUDY IN MIYAMA-CHO, KYOTO PREFECTURE, WHERE THE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT SINCE 1993, I INVESTIGATED THE TYPES OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. I ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THE GREEN-TOURISM PROMOTION BY VILLAGERS DOES NOT ANSWER THE NEEDS FOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES OF VISITORS FROM CITIES. NAMELY, THE VISITORS' FIRST NEEDS FOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN RURAL ATMOSPHERE CAN BE CHARACTERIZED AS SPENDING THEIR TIME CALM AND FREELY, AND THE LAST NEEDS ARE CLOSE-CONTACT WITH THE VILLAGERS. THE VILLAGERS ARE INTENDING TO PROMOTE THE FREQUENT CONTACT BETWEEN VILLAGERS AND VISITORS FROM CITIES, SO AS TO REVITALIZE THEIR OWN TOWN.
