The aim of this paper is to understand the problems for making better use of the street space in the future, through researching well developed cases in Japan: Sidewalk cafes on Peace Boulevard, Hiroshima city, and Tsurumi, Yokohama. Major factors realizing the use of street space are shown as follows: 1) local government's participation in the preparatory period of the projects, 2) Public interest of the project, 3) keeping the space for pedestrians traffic.
