Abstract
After the open economy policy, rapid urbanization has been going on in Hanoi city. Free land-use is coming up with the open economy, without sufficient legislation system. From this situation degradation of living environment is anticipated in the future. In this paper, firstly we grasp the situation of the legislation system concerning acquisition of landed property and development of land in the term of the rapid development after Doi Moi in Hanoi. Secondly, using topographic maps of 1:10,000 on the time points of 1983 and 1996, we analyze the land-use change during these years. As a result, we make the characteristics of urbanization, the change of water surface region and the change of village part clear. At the last, we clarified the problem and subject of urban development in Hanoi.
