Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the member composition of municipal city planning councils,in Kyushu region,on the background of that City Planning Law 2000 strengthened the councils'power. A questionnaire survey was conducted over 264 municipalities. The items of the questionnaire were 1)member composition of people of experience or academic standing,2)problems in appointing such members,and 3)utilizing temporal or special member. The major results are as follows:The number of councils that have the members of academic standing is not large. Although many municipalities have difficulties to acquire such disclose because of long distances between administrative office and universities/collages,some councils do not have them in spite of that the distances are short. It shows the lack of incentive to acquire academic members in the councils.
