Abstract
It is almost impossible to define an ideal townscape because each person considers and each situation requires different parameters for the evaluation of a given townscape. In this paper I first try to classify elements and facters which comprise the ideal townscape and then organize them into a set of indices to evaluate them and the townscape. An ideal townscape consists of the elements connected to safety, culture and harmonious unity of the elements. This space is often "Amenity".With fieldwork in 20 districts reputable for their townscape,I classified an ideal townscape factors and formalized the indices. I confirmed that the districts nominated for the governmental landscape award are an idel townscape award are an ideal townscape according to our indices.
