Abstract
In this paper I shall consider the form of public space in a built-up area, situating my argument within intermediate associations. I described Karahori Club as one of them, which is private, non-profit organization and whose principle is publicness. Public space was created and was evolved in the Karahori district by the club, and it became an attractive town there. In conclusion, I can find four factors: 1. Both the residents and the club share a common goal of creating an ideal form of town in the plan. 2. The club tries to realize the goal by using resources of local community. 3. Without relying on government the club has ability to accomplish the project. The club cooperates with the residents in doing it. This paper shows that the intermediate association plays an important role to create public space in the process of machizukuri.
