Abstract
Chinese gardens can be categorized 2types ; one that are imperial gardens owned by succsessive emperors family and were prosperous in Qing dynasty, and the other are private gardens by government officers or merchants. In particular we selected and studied for the representative 3 imperial gardens : "Bishu Shanzhuang" in Chengde, "the Summer Palace" and "Beihai Park" in Beijing. In these 3 gardens the long Ro-spaces along the lakeside can be seen in common and We analyzed characteristics of users walk at such the Ro-spaces. Those Ro-spaces are important spaces which guides the users visually and contributes to the pleasant scenery. By the follow-up investigations in those 3 gardens, we analyzed and made comparison of the users walk line, walk speed, and walk distance. Also the number of stay times, especially seated stay had influences to the walk speed by the analysis.
